Independent MP for İskeçe Burhan Baran has called on the Minister of Rural Development and Food to urgently address the exclusion of livestock farmers in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace from feed cost subsidies.
Baran said the region suffered severe losses from livestock diseases such as sheep pox and bluetongue, leading to mass culls and higher operating costs. Many farmers, he argued, failed to meet production criteria for aid due to these losses, while producers in less-affected regions with similar or lower output did receive subsidies.
He urged corrective measures to ensure fairness, noting that livestock farming is vital to the region’s food security.
