MeRA25 MEP Candidate Ali Bülbül makes statement on the closure of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association

Ali Bülbül, MEP Candidate from Rodopi from MeRA25 Party, made a statement about the closure of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association with a court decision.

"The closure decision of the court is another proof that there is no real democracy in Greece and Europe. Such practices, which we encounter in many issues here and in other European countries, are contrary to the spirit of the establishment of the European Union", Ali Bülbül said in his statement on the subject:

"Greek courts have added a new one to their outdated judgements that should remain in the past and have decided to close down another association just because of its name.

It is unacceptable and contrary to democracy and human rights that the courts, which had previously ordered the closure of associations with the word "Turkish" in their names, now ordered the closure of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association because of the name "Western Thrace", which is a geographical sign.

Aside from the fact that the European Court of Human Rights' judgement against Greece regarding our previously closed associations has not been implemented, the state authorities continue with their repressive policies.

This decision is another proof that there is no real democracy in Greece and Europe. Such practices, which we encounter here and in other European countries on many other issues, are contrary to the founding spirit of the European Union.

MeRA25 has opposed and will continue to oppose these antidemocratic and fascist policies in every field. We demand the implementation of the ECtHR judgements and the immediate uninterrupted reopening of the closed associations under the names of their own choice. We will continue to struggle in Greece and Europe against injustices in every field."
