Lina Mendoni to visit the Bayezid Mosque again in early October
This visit was part of her broader engagements in various cities of Northern Greece.
After completing her inspection, Minister Mendoni expressed her satisfaction with the progress, stating, "I am leaving satisfied, but I will return in a month to be absolutely certain." This marks her third visit to the site over the summer to oversee the restoration efforts.
During the visit, she led a meeting with the Deputy Regional Governor of Evros, officials from the Ministry of Culture, and the project contractor, providing necessary directions to ensure the project's progress.
Mendoni emphasized that the restoration is advancing well but highlighted the importance of adhering to the strict timeline, considering the unpredictable weather in Didymoteicho. She remarked, "Those unfamiliar with Didymoteicho do not account for the weather. We could face a winter where outdoor work becomes difficult for extended periods. We must prepare for such an eventuality with a Plan B."
Mendoni previously visited Didymoteicho in July and August, accompanied by the regional governor and officials from the Ministry of Culture and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Evros. She plans to return by October 5, following a visit from the General Secretary of the Ministry, along with a technical team.
