The sudden change of weather in the afternoon today in the area of Hemetli caused lightning strikes in the area. Two lightning strikes occurred at different times today afternoon in the south and north of Hemetli village.
Fires broke out as a result of the lightning strikes. The first intervention to the fires was made by the villagers. Then, the firefighters sent to the region by the Komotini Fire Department, who were informed in the first minutes of the fires, also participated in the extinguishing works.
The interventions of the village residents and firefighters ensured that the fires were brought under control and extinguished before they grew.
