Komotini Municipality issues high fire risk warning
According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map published by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis Ministry, the Rhodope region is at high risk (Category 3) on Tuesday, August 12, 2024.
In light of this, the Municipality of Komotini released a written statement urging citizens to be cautious of potential fires. The statement highlighted that local conditions—such as topography, local winds, and temperatures—make it highly likely for fires to occur, which could be difficult to control.
The municipality advised anyone who notices a fire to immediately call 199 or 112, providing precise information about their location and the fire's position.
Citizens were also advised to avoid actions that could unintentionally start fires, such as burning dry grass, branches, or waste in open areas, using spark-producing equipment like saws or welders, and smoking outdoors. Additionally, grilling in open areas, using bee smokers, and discarding lit cigarettes should be strictly avoided.
