ITB reacts to the ban on "Western Thrace"

In the statement issued by President Ozan Ahmetoğlu on behalf of the Board of Directors of ITB, "We would like to express our deep disappointment with the decision of the Civil Court of First Instance of Rodopi to close the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association".

The written statement made by İTB on 31 May Friday is as follows:

"AFTER THE WORD 'TURKISH', THE WORD 'WESTERN THRACE' IS ALSO WANTED TO BE BANNED

We would like to express our deep disappointment with the decision of the Rodopi Civil Court of First Instance to close down the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association.

While waiting for the implementation of the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) concerning the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace, we see that the scope of the practices violating the rights and law of the Turkish minority is expanding.

The fact that the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association, whose foundation was previously registered by a court decision, was ordered to be closed down by a court decision, again because of the phrase "Western Thrace" in its name, reveals the antidemocratic policies that the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace is subjected to.

In Western Thrace, after the term "Turkish", the term "Western Thrace" is also wanted to be "banned". This situation, which almost tramples on concepts such as democracy, equality, law and human rights, is extremely worrying.

We hope that this wrong and antidemocratic decision will be reversed as soon as possible and we would like to emphasise that we, as Xanthi Turkish Union, which has been continuing its struggle for 41 years, stand by the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association in its just cause."
