İskeçe Turkish Union President Abdurrahimoğlu marks January 29 with message of unity and resistance
Kerem Abdurrahimoğlu, President of the İskeçe Turkish Union (İskeçe Türk Birliği), has issued a statement marking January 29, the Day of National Resistance and Social Solidarity, emphasizing the date as a historic turning point for the Turks of Western Thrace.
In his message, Abdurrahimoğlu stressed that January 29 symbolizes the day when Western Thrace Turks demonstrated to the world that they would not remain silent.
“We are equal citizens of this country. We exist on these lands through what we produce, our language, our culture, and our identity. We are both the past and the future of these lands,” he said.
Commitment to Rights and International Law
Highlighting the ongoing rights struggle of the Western Thrace Turkish community, Abdurrahimoğlu underlined that their rights are rooted in universal principles and international law, and reaffirmed the community’s determination to continue defending these rights with resolve.
He further noted that the spirit of January 29 remains alive today, particularly among young people.
“This collective awareness and the spirit of January 29 live on in the youth of Western Thrace and will continue to do so. Together with our youth, we will build a more just future on these lands,” Abdurrahimoğlu stated.
Concluding his message, he extended his greetings on the occasion of January 29, the Day of National Resistance and Social Solidarity.
