Authorities in northeastern Greece have temporarily banned vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes from using both directions of the Egnatia Motorway between Gümülcine (Komotini) and İskeçe (Xanthi) because of strong winds.

The restriction took effect at 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, covering the section between the western interchange of Gümülcine and the Boyacılar (Toxotes) interchange near İskeçe.

The measure was imposed by the police directorates of Rhodope and İskeçe and will remain in force as long as adverse weather conditions persist, according to the report.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE FOR AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles covered by the restriction are being directed to use the national road connecting Gümülcine, Karağaç (Porto Lagos) and İskeçe as an alternative route.

Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution due to the adverse weather conditions affecting the area.

Drivers of heavy vehicles are advised to follow police instructions and check for updates before travelling through the affected section.
