Hearts united in Demircik: Charity fair sees overwhelming attendance in Western Thrace
The village of Demircik, located in the Xanthi (İskeçe) region of Western Thrace, hosted a vibrant and heartwarming event on Sunday, August 3. Organized by the Demircik Youth, Education, Culture, and Sports Association, the Charity Fair (Hayır Kermesi) exceeded expectations with its high attendance and lively atmosphere.
Running from early morning until midnight, the event brought together residents from across the region, offering a meaningful platform for connection, cultural pride, and collective spirit. It once again demonstrated the unity and resilience of the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace.
A Day of Joy and Community
Held in Demircik's village square, the fair drew visitors not only from Xanthi but also from surrounding villages and towns across Western Thrace. Free shuttle services from the Xanthi city center, arranged to facilitate participation, were met with high demand.
The market area buzzed with activity throughout the day. Dozens of stalls offered a wide array of items—from traditional dishes and homemade preserves to handcrafted goods and organic products—giving attendees the opportunity to both sample and purchase unique local offerings.
A Special Guest from Türkiye: Saliha Erdim
One of the most anticipated segments of the day was the appearance of Turkish family counselor and author Saliha Erdim, who was invited to join the event as a guest speaker. Her book signing, which began at 16:00, drew a large crowd. The following talk at 18:00, focusing on family values, societal solidarity, and emotional well-being, was attentively followed by attendees and sparked meaningful discussion.
A Strong Symbol of Regional Solidarity
Proceeds from the fair will be directed toward youth and cultural initiatives within the community. In this regard, the charity fair stood not only as a festive gathering but also as a powerful act of social solidarity and cultural preservation.
Gratitude and Future Plans
The organizing body, Demircik Youth, Education, Culture, and Sports Association, extended heartfelt thanks to its primary sponsor, Pountso Holding, as well as to all supporters and volunteers who made the event possible. Representatives expressed satisfaction with the strong turnout and confirmed that similar activities will continue in the future.
