Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union marks Ashura Day with community gathering
The Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union (GTYU) organized an Ashura Day event on Saturday, bringing together members of the local Turkish community to celebrate the traditional occasion symbolizing unity, solidarity and sharing.
The event was jointly organized by the union's executive board and its Next Generation branch. Prepared portions of ashura, a traditional dessert associated with the Islamic month of Muharram, were distributed to visitors at the association's garden as well as to nearby shopkeepers.
Organizers said the gathering aimed to preserve cultural traditions while strengthening social bonds within the community. The event attracted strong participation and highlighted the values of togetherness, mutual support and generosity that Ashura Day represents.
Ashura Day is observed across many Muslim communities and is traditionally marked by preparing and sharing ashura with relatives, neighbors and the wider public as a symbol of unity and compassion.
