The Municipality of Gümülcine (Komotini) presented its initiatives to improve urban accessibility and promote the equal participation of people with disabilities at an international meeting in Bratislava, Slovakia, held on October 6–7.

The meeting took place within the URBACT C.ALL – Accessible Cities for All network, led by the Municipality of Gümülcine. Representatives from participating cities discussed ways to remove barriers to urban life and ensure that people with disabilities have a greater role in local decision-making.

Spiros Dantandidis and Stella Argiropoulou, members of PERPATO, the Association of People with Disabilities and Friends of Rhodope, also joined the delegation from Gümülcine. They contributed to discussions on identifying physical, digital and communication barriers that people with disabilities encounter in their daily lives.

ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSIVE URBAN PLANNING
During the meeting, participants examined accessibility initiatives implemented in Bratislava and learned about Gümülcine’s “Accessible City for All” initiative.

Discussions also focused on improving access to cultural venues and strengthening the participation of people with disabilities in the development of urban policies.

The exchange provided an opportunity for representatives of different cities to share experiences and discuss practical approaches to making public spaces and services more accessible.

URBACT C.ALL PROMOTES ACCESSIBLE CITIES
The URBACT C.ALL network aims to strengthen cooperation and knowledge-sharing between cities, helping them reduce barriers and develop more accessible and inclusive urban environments.
