Gümülcine Mufti Ibrahim Serif issues Eid al-Adha message emphasizing unity and solidarity

Ibrahim Serif, the Mufti of Gümülcine, has released a message for Eid al-Adha, urging Muslims to embrace unity, compassion, and spiritual reflection during one of Islam’s holiest celebrations.

In his address ahead of the holiday beginning on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Serif described Eid as a time of joy, solidarity, and renewed religious consciousness.

“Religious Holidays Strengthen Brotherhood”
The Mufti highlighted the social and spiritual significance of Islamic holidays, noting that religious celebrations reinforce communal ties just as national holidays strengthen national identity.

He recalled the Islamic tradition established by the Prophet Muhammad after the migration from Mecca to Medina, emphasizing that Muslims recognize two major religious holidays in Islam.

Referring to Eid al-Adha as the “Festival of Pilgrims,” Serif also underlined the connection between the holiday and the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, one of the five pillars of Islam.

Emphasis on Worship, Family, and Social Responsibility
In his message, Ibrahim Serif stressed that the act of sacrifice during Eid al-Adha is performed in accordance with the teachings of the Quran, the example of Prophet Ibrahim, and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad.

He said collective Eid prayers and acts of worship help strengthen:

  • Brotherhood among Muslims
  • Spiritual unity within society
  • Love, respect, and solidarity among families and neighbors

The Mufti also encouraged believers to visit parents, relatives, and neighbors during the holiday while extending support to those in need.

According to Serif, religious holidays serve as an important opportunity to renew social cohesion and reinforce mutual assistance within the community.

Reminder About Tashreeq Takbirs
The Komotini Mufti additionally reminded worshippers about the importance of the “Tashreeq Takbirs,” special recitations performed after obligatory prayers during Eid al-Adha.

He noted that the recitations begin with the morning prayer on the Day of Arafah and continue until the afternoon prayer on the fourth day of Eid, describing them as a significant religious obligation in Islamic tradition.

Eid Wishes to the Muslim Community
Concluding his message, Ibrahim Serif expressed hopes for future holidays marked by peace, unity, and joyful gatherings among Muslims, offering heartfelt Eid greetings to the wider Muslim community.
