GTGB condemns provocation at Çınar Mosque

In their statement, GTGB emphasized the need to avoid such provocations, stating, "We expect the reinstatement of the positions of the muftis elected by the Western Thrace Turkish Minority based on the Treaty of Lausanne."

The full statement from the Komotini Turkish Youth Union reads:

"On Friday, October 11, appointed mufti deputies, who participated in the opening of İskeçe Medrese alongside Yorgos Kalancis, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, attempted to enter the İskeçe Çınar Mosque to perform the Friday prayer in their robes and turbans. However, their entry in this attire was seen as a provocation by the congregation, and they were prevented from entering.

As the Executive Board of the Komotini Turkish Youth Union, we strongly condemn the provocative actions of the appointed mufti deputies at İskeçe Aşağımahalle Çınar Mosque, which disregard the will of the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority.

We urge the avoidance of such provocations in the future and call for the reinstatement of the positions of the muftis elected by the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, as guaranteed by the Treaty of Lausanne."
