FUEN Report highlights ongoing education challenges facing Western Thrace Turkish Minority

The Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) has once again drawn attention to the educational challenges facing the Turkish minority in Western Thrace, placing the issue on the agenda through its latest report on minority education.

The report highlights the absence of bilingual Turkish-Greek minority kindergartens, noting that children are required to attend Greek-language preschools. It also points to the continued closure of minority primary schools due to declining student numbers, raising concerns over the long-term sustainability of minority education.

According to the report, the educational framework continues to face structural challenges affecting access to mother-tongue education and the preservation of the minority's educational institutions. The findings have renewed calls for measures aimed at safeguarding educational rights and ensuring the continuity of minority schools in line with international standards.

FUEN regularly monitors the situation of national and linguistic minorities across Europe, with education remaining one of the key issues affecting the Western Thrace Turkish Minority.
