Özgür Ferhat in action for motorway chases
Rodopi SIRIZA MP Özgür Ferhat called for measures to be taken against the smugglers who have recently jeopardised the life safety of the citizens in the region. "I believe that this serious problem would be alleviated as soon as possible if the government applied the same control conditions to illegal smugglers as it applies to people going to their fields, workplaces, cafes, bazaars and markets," said MP Ferhat.
Noting that he had submitted a report on the problem caused by the recent chases with migrant smugglers to the parliamentary presidency, Ferhat stated that he wanted the necessary measures to be taken.
Stating that the chases with migrant smugglers in the city centres and on the Egnatia motorway endanger the lives of citizens, Özgür Ferhat made the following statements in his press release
"Recently, we have been observing with great concern that refugee and migrant smugglers have been endangering the lives of our people and citizens in our region and many times, luckily, there have been no casualties.
The chases in our villages and in the city centre have now moved to the Egnatia motorway and smugglers driving at excessive speed in the opposite direction pose a deadly threat to people in vehicles travelling in the normal direction.
I have used all my powers as an MP to submit a report on this serious matter to the parliamentary speaker. The ministers concerned, the minister for the protection of citizens, the minister for transport and infrastructure, are obliged to inform the parliament of the measures they will take or the solutions to be used as a precautionary measure.
The authorities who have been watching this reality for days, the government and the units responsible for the safety of life and property of the citizens have again failed to fulfil their duties and failed in class."
Ferhat continued his statement as follows: "I believe that this serious problem would be alleviated as soon as possible if the government applied the same inspection conditions to the illegal smugglers as it applies to the people who go to their fields, workplaces, cafes, bazaars and markets, although they do not pose any danger in our villages!
Therefore, as a SIRIZA MP for Rodopi, I remind the importance of the state units to deal with such serious incidents and to ensure the safety of the citizens and I demand that the necessary initiatives be taken in this regard."
