Dimitris Stamatis, former General Secretary of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (2007–2009), passed away at the age of 75 after a long battle with a serious illness.
Dimitris Stamatis, former General Secretary of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (2007–2009), passed away at the age of 75 after a long battle with a serious illness.
Born in Thessaloniki, Stamatis lived there with his wife and two children. He studied law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and practiced as a lawyer.
In 1985, he was elected for the first time as a Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki A’ with New Democracy. He also served as General Secretary of the former Ministry of Transport and Communications, Minister of State in the coalition government under Antonis Samaras, and in recent years as President of the Deposits and Loans Fund.
