Former BTTÖB president and retired teacher Sami Toraman laid to rest
Sami Toraman, former president of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union (BTTÖB) and a respected retired educator, was laid to rest today in Komotini (Gümülcine) following his passing in Istanbul.
Toraman, who had been struggling with health issues for some time, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, in Istanbul. His funeral took place on Friday, October 31, at the Yeni Mahalle Cemetery in Gümülcine.
Following the afternoon prayer at Yeni Mahalle Mosque, a ceremony was held in front of his home. During the ceremony, Aydın Ahmet, current president of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union, delivered a speech highlighting Toraman’s lifelong contributions to education and the community.
The funeral was attended by Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal, Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union President Sedat Hasan, along with colleagues, friends, and relatives of the late teacher.
Sami Toraman was laid to rest at the Yeni Mahalle Cemetery, accompanied by prayers from his loved ones.
