Forest fire in Hebilköy brought under control

A forest fire that broke out in Hebilköy, a village in the Municipality of Kozlukebir (Rodopi Prefecture), was brought under control by Thursday evening, July 17.
According to local residents, the fire started in the afternoon, causing panic in its early stages as thick smoke and flames spread rapidly through the wooded area. Fortunately, thanks to the swift and coordinated response of firefighting teams, the fire was contained by the evening.
The Hellenic Fire Service reported that 36 firefighters were deployed to the scene, including two on-foot teams from the 7th Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK). Efforts were also supported by Kozlukebir municipal crews and local residents who assisted in containing the blaze.
Although the fire was placed under control by nightfall, fire suppression and monitoring efforts are ongoing to prevent any reignition.
