All wildfires that broke out on August 6 in Xanthi (İskeçe), Thasos (Taşöz Island), and Porto Lagos (Paşalimanı) have been brought under full control and extinguished. Firefighting teams continue cooling operations intermittently in affected areas to prevent potential flare-ups.

İskeçe
A fire erupted around 11:00 a.m. in the Mursalli region of İskeçe, coming dangerously close — just 50 meters — to residential areas. Prompt response from civil defense units, including firefighters, police, the Hellenic Army’s IV Corps, and municipal teams, successfully contained the blaze.
The fire scorched 50 acres of land but was fully extinguished before reaching any homes.

Paşalimanı
In the Paşalimanı area (municipality of Bulustra), a fire broke out in the evening and threatened nearby fuel storage facilities at the harbor. Firefighters surrounded the tanks to prevent a possible explosion. Thanks to overnight efforts, the fire was completely extinguished by early Thursday morning.

Taşöz
Four separate fires ignited across different parts of Taşöz Island on Wednesday afternoon. The fires approached tourist zones but were controlled and extinguished by late night, thanks to joint efforts from professional firefighters and local volunteers.
Authorities believe the fires were triggered by intense lightning strikes. Firefighting units from the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region were deployed to reinforce the island’s response teams.

Two Firefighters Hospitalised
Two firefighters involved in extinguishing the fires in İskeçe and Paşalimanı were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation at İskeçe State Hospital. Both have since recovered and have been discharged.

The affected regions remain on high wildfire alert, and emergency crews continue to monitor the areas as a precaution.
