Evros: The works of the new fence started
The construction works of the new 35 km long fence in Evros, between Psathades Didymoteicho and Kornofolia Soufli, started.
The construction sites of the two contractors, TERNA and Intrakat, who took over with the signing of a contract last March, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the area of Ferres, in exchange for an amount of 99.2 million euros to build the new section, have already been installed in Kornofolia.
At the moment, local subcontractors are carrying out the preliminary work concerning the cleaning of the area where the new deterrent barrier will be placed, by cutting trees and shaping the areas next to the embankment and towards the area of the Greek bank of the Evros River.
What does the new project include?
The new project that has already started concerns the construction of an artificial barrier and accompanying works along the Methorio E/T from the area of Psathades Didymoteicho to Kornofolia Soufliou, to ensure public order and safety.
Includes:
· New artificial barrier, 5 meters high, embedded in the ground at a depth of 6 meters.
· The construction of 7 anti-ballistic observatories with armored cabins.
· The maintenance and modernization and upgrading of existing 4 EF and 4 OP of the Army.
· The formation of roads for surveillance and maintenance of the obstacles.
· The construction of gates.
· Construction of a new 300 sq.m. Building for border guard equipment and the repair/improvement of existing buildings and other infrastructure in the wider area of the project.
