European Free Alliance supports the action of Western Thrace Turks in Xanthi
The European Free Alliance (EFA), of which the Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party is a member, supported the boycott against the shift education system imposed on the Xanthi Muzaffer Salihoğlu Minority Secondary and High School.
In its message of support, the European Free Alliance used the following expressions.
"The Turkish minority in Xanthi is on its eighth day of protest against the new shift system imposed on the minority school in the town. The shift system, in which some children start classes in the afternoon, is seen by the authorities as a way of counteracting the terrible cramped conditions in the school building, a former warehouse, and the numerous risks to children's safety. But this cannot be the case. It harms the children and their families even more. The EFA delegation that visited Western Thrace and the school in April was shocked by the conditions at the school, where it found numerous breaches of European standards on health, safety, fire prevention and emergency evacuation procedures. The only way to solve the problems in the existing building is the construction of a new, safer school building for the children of the minority. The shift system is an unacceptable patchwork that tries to cover up the wider problem of the building. We express our solidarity and support for the campaigns of our member party Friendship Equality Peace Party and the Xanthi Turkish Union on this issue."
