Election warning to Western Thrace Turks abroad!
Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) President Halit Habipoğlu wrote an article on the parliamentary elections to be held on 21 May. Habipoğlu called on Western Thracians living abroad to participate in the elections and vote for Turkish minority candidates.
Habipoğlu pointed out that in accordance with the new electoral law, if citizens living abroad vote at the Greek representations in the region where they reside, they will vote for the parties, not the candidates, and said: "Greek citizens living abroad will be able to vote at the consulates in the regions where they reside. However, there is a very, very important point to be considered here! First of all, the voter who will vote abroad will not be able to vote in his/her country for eight years, because he/she will be registered in the list of voters abroad. In addition, those who vote abroad will be able to vote only for the party, not for the candidate."
Referring to the Turkish brochure published by the MERA 25 party, ABTTF President Habipoğlu said: "When we look at the MERA 25 programme, there are also commitments regarding our community as SYRIZA did in the past. MERA 25 even translated these commitments into Turkish and shared them with the public. MERA 25 seems to need the votes of our community to pass the threshold."
