The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT), in collaboration with the Aristotle University of Selanik (AUTH), is launching a Cross-Border Center for Journalism and New Technologies. The initiative aims to support regional media outlets and strengthen the professional skills of both current and aspiring journalists.

The project, with a budget of €72,000 and a duration of 24 months, was approved by the Regional Committee of EMT. It will be implemented by the Directorate of Lifelong Learning, Employment, Trade, and Tourism. The center will serve as a pilot program to provide annual technical and professional training to regional media personnel.

Key Objectives:
Professional Training: The center will offer specialized programs focusing on digital skills, combating misinformation, and other modern challenges in journalism.

Research and Innovation: New technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and interactive media will be integrated into journalism practices through research initiatives.

International Collaboration: The center will promote networking between journalism institutions and universities in neighboring and international regions to share expertise and best practices.

Support for Local Media: Local and regional media outlets will be equipped with tools and knowledge to improve the quality and reliability of their reporting.

Media Ethics and Peace Journalism: Emphasis will be placed on training journalists in ethics, objectivity, and the role of journalism in maintaining social cohesion.

The program aspires to create a sustainable ecosystem of journalism education, fostering a continuous cycle of training that enhances the skills of media professionals and administrative staff alike.

This strategic initiative positions the EMT Region as an emerging hub for journalism education and technological innovation in Southeast Europe.
