E6 European road, from Finland to Samothrace

At the meeting held at the East Macedonia and Thrace State Presidency, the route of the E6 European road starting from Finland and its touristic use were evaluated.

Under the chairmanship of East Macedonia and Thrace State (EMT) President Christos Metios, the meeting was held in Komotini. EMT Deputy Head of Infrastructure Mihalis Amiridis, General Manager of Development Planning, Head of State Technical Affairs Directorate and Head of "East Macedonia and Thrace" Program Special Management Service representatives participate to the meeting.

At the meeting, the promotion and touristic use of the E6 European road, which passes through the borders of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Province, were discussed.

The EMT State government has secured a budget of 35,000 euros from the National Development Program (NDP) to begin mapping the E6 European road in the region.

The mapping will be the first step in the work that will lead to the review of the necessary projects. These projects can then be funded from the EMT State's ESPA program.

The aim of the EMT State government is to make the E6 European road the main body of a wider road network that state units and municipalities plan to create and become a tourist attraction.

The E6 European road starts from Finland and passes through the countries of Central Europe and ends in northern Greece.

The E6 European road will enter the Kato Nevrokopi region on the borders of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Province, reach Alexandroupoli, then arrive at Samothrace Island and end on the island.
