Dr. Sadık Ahmet library in Istanbul
Istanbul Arnavutköy Municipality put in to service the library, named Dr.Sadik Ahmet, the leader of the Western Thrace Turks.
At the opening ceremony held on Wednesday, November 9, Dr. Sadık Ahmet's wife and FEP Party Honorary Chairman Işık Sadık Ahmet and his daughter Lawyer Funda Sadık Ahmet attended. There were emotional moments from time to time during the ceremony.
Representatives of associations operating in Arnavutköy, non-governmental organizations, students, Dr. Sadik Ahmet's family and citizens attended.
At the event, documentary and cine-vision about Dr. Sadık Ahmet were screened. Gifts were given to Sadık Ahmet's wife Işık Sadık Ahmet and her daughter Funda Sadık Ahmet.
Speaking at the program, Arnavutköy Mayor Ahmet Haşim Baltacı said, “First of all, I wish God's mercy on the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet. The part that adds much more importance to this meaningful work is that these important names are kept alive here. These people and these important personalities need to be better explained to the society. Today, I would like to reiterate that it is very valuable to keep such an important name alive in good service.”
Dr. Sadik Ahmet's wife, Işık Sadık Ahmet, said, "When I married Sadık Ahmet, he was a doctor, and then when he started to talk about the problems, the difficult process began. Beside every successful man, there is a successful woman. I had no choice but to support him. It was a difficult process. Today I am very happy to see that his name exists in this precious place. I see that he is not dead. I also see the support given to the Balkans. It has made me even happier in recent years.” she said.
