Deputy Zeybek slams the government, lists the expectations of the citizens

Xanthi New Left Party MP Hussein spoke during the discussion of the draft consumer protection law prepared by the Ministry of Development.

He said that the consumer protection bill prepared at a time when the purchasing power of the people in Greece is at the lowest level in the EU and inflation is 3.1% above the EU average is not convincing.

Stating that the monthly salaries of the majority of families in Greece are exhausted before the end of the month, Zeybek said, "Food prices are 36% more expensive compared to April 2023, and 3 out of 4 families cut even food and basic needs. You reduce the VAT rate on property transfers over 1.5 million euros made by large companies and their families to children, but refuse to reduce VAT on food and basic needs. This is lack of empathy and hypocrisy."

Zeybek addressed the government and noted that the railway network in the Thrace region was left to its own fate and the region was made inaccessible and said "The Xanthi hospital, which you collapsed with your wrong policies, survives with the devotion of doctors and nurses. But you talk about development. After the great fire disaster in Evros and Rhodope last year, you did not support the producers, farmers, livestock breeders, olive producers and beekeepers. Do not forget that there cannot be development without them."

Stating that it is not possible to claim that the market is functioning properly in a period when the New Democracy Party government is identified with cartels in the food, fuel and energy markets, Zeybek said, "You are looting low and middle income citizens by not preventing this cost because you do not want to. Citizens expect a reduction in prices of basic food needs, an increase in purchasing power for a dignified life, a reduction in taxes, taxation of high incomes, an end to profiteering and an increase in the minimum wage."
