Deputy Minister Kellas responds to Burhan Baran’s parliamentary question
Independent MP for Xanthi, Burhan Baran, shared with the public the official response he received from Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Christos Kellas, regarding his parliamentary question numbered 5437/16-5-2025.
In the statement, it was announced that the Ministry of Finance has approved a de minimis aid package totaling €63,000,000, aimed at offsetting the increased costs associated with keeping livestock in enclosed spaces and rising feed expenses.
The support measure is intended to partially compensate for the income losses faced by the livestock sector due to confinement measures and logistical constraints in feed transportation.
The statement also noted that a joint ministerial decision (KYA) regulating the regional distribution of the funds would be published soon. It read as follows:
“This financial aid will be distributed proportionally to the duration during which animals were kept indoors. Payments will range between €4 and €8 per animal. Regions such as Xanthi, which have reported similar case numbers and confinement durations as Evros (Meriç), have no reason to be excluded from receiving the maximum €8 per animal compensation.”
