Conversation for children's health at Xanthi Central Turkish Primary School

With the organisation of Xanthi Central Turkish Primary School PTA, a useful event for parents will be held on Wednesday, 21 February at 18:00.

In the event to be held at the school, Child Health and Diseases Specialist Dr. Münevver Ago will have a conversation with parents about "Recent epidemics and prevention methods and healthy development of children".

A similar event organised by the Parent-Teacher Association was not allowed by the Xanthi Primary School Directorate. The parents who went to the school to attend the event could not enter the school because the school doors were locked. For this reason, the event was organised at the Xanthi Turkish Union.

A similar event was organised at the Idadiye Primary School in Komotini in the past days and the Directorate of Primary Education in Rodopi did not prevent the event from taking place.

Do different rules apply in the same country?

The fact that PTAs organising similar events are not allowed in Xanthi but are allowed in Komotini brings to mind the question "Are different rules valid in the same country?". It boggles the minds that the primary education directorate in one province of the country allows such activities, which are based on education and where useful topics are covered for the family and their children, but the other one does not. This incomprehensible behaviour and practices of the Primary Education Directorate of Xanthi are followed with concern by the public.

The injustices done to the Turks of Western Thrace in Greece on many issues have been intensifying in recent years especially in Minority Education. While the minority education is subjected to the unfair practices of the administration in many issues, the administrators who are intolerant enough not to allow the activities that the Parent-Teacher Association wants to organise in a school are almost delighted to strike a blow to the minority education of Western Thrace Turks.
