Consul General Ünal visits Çay Mahalle village of Xanthi
Consul General of Türkiye in Komotini Aykut Ünal continues to meet with Western Thrace Turks on different occasions.
Consul General Ünal, who participates in many events organised by Western Thrace Turks and does not leave the compatriots alone, also visits different villages on Fridays and meets the kinsmen at Friday prayers.
Consul General Ünal visited today (1 March 2024) the village of Çay Mahalle in Mustafçova Municipality of Xanthi. Consul General Ünal was accompanied by Consul General Barış Çulha during his visit. Mufti of Xanthi Mustafa Trampa, Mayor of Mustafçova Ahmet Kurt, Deputy Mufti Ahmet Hraloğlu, Deputy President of FEP Party Bahri Belço, President of Çınar Association Cengiz Ömer, Deputy Mayors of Mustafçova Mithat Kabur and Sami Palikar.
Addressing the congregation before the Friday prayer, Çay Mahalle Imam Ayhan Hacıkaraahmet expressed his pleasure to welcome Consul General Ünal, Mufti Trampa and other guests. Stating that he has been working in Çay Mahalle for 25 years, the village imam said that this was the first time that a Consul General was with them during Friday prayers.
Greeting the congregation, Consul General Aykut Ünal expressed his pleasure to be in such a charming village of Western Thrace. Stating that he chatted with a student of Xanthi Minority Secondary School whom he met outside before the mosque, Consul General Ünal emphasised that it is a great example of sacrifice and heroism to wake up early every morning from Çay Mahalle, one of the most remote villages of Xanthi, and go to the Minority Secondary School in Xanthi. On this occasion, Ünal emphasised the importance of protecting the minority schools and thanked the people of the village who welcomed him with sincerity in such a warm environment.
Consul General Ünal and other guests had the opportunity to chat with the villagers in the village coffee house after Friday prayers. After leaving Çay Mahalle, Consul General Ünal also had the opportunity to drink tea and chat with the kinsmen in Yassıören village.
