Citizens from Demircik await a solution

Residents of the village of Demircik, located in the Mustafçova Municipality of İskeçe, are seeking a solution to the issues caused by the construction of the Greece-Bulgaria highway.

The villagers have been waiting for compensation for the damage caused by the highway's construction, and they continue to seek solutions from authorities. Before construction began, the villagers were promised that the dirt roads leading to their fields and barns would remain open, but as the highway nears completion, these promises have not been kept.

The Demircik villagers, who live under harsh geographical conditions and rely on agriculture and livestock for their livelihood, are finding it increasingly difficult to access their fields and barns since the construction began.

Highlighting the unfulfilled promises, the villagers visited the Deputy Governor of İskeçe, Polikseni Brika, on January 17, 2025, to explain their concerns and request a solution. The delegation, led by Mustafçova Municipality Council Member Tahir Ömer and accompanied by lawyer Muzaffer Kabza, provided detailed information, including documents, about the problem's origins and the promises that have been made without being realized.

Tahir Ömer reported that the meeting was positive, with the issue being raised both verbally and in writing, and the villagers are now awaiting a resolution. He expressed gratitude for the support of İskeçe Deputy Governor İsmailko Fatih, who attended the meeting, and thanked lawyer Muzaffer Kabza for standing by them from the beginning.
