Cemil Kabza, Head of the Main Opposition of the Municipality of Mustafçova (Myki), reacted to the looting of the historical Ottoman Muslim Turkish Cemetery in Horozlu, a district of Bulustra Municipality, with a press release. Cemil Kabza, in his condemnation text published as the president of the PUBLIC MOVEMENT, said that the ugly attempt should be abandoned immediately, that those who tried to make this move owe an apology and that the 15-decare cemetery, which is the property of the foundation, should be returned to its original owners.
The following statements were included in the condemnation text published by Kabza on March 17, 2022.
“It is with great sadness that we learned of the attempts to destroy our historical heritage from the Ottoman Empire in the village of Horozlu (Petinos) of the Bulustra (Avdira) Municipality in İskeçe (Xanthi).
Acting with the idea that 'this is the property of the municipality' and wanting to destroy the historical cemetery where our ancestors lie, with construction machinery, is absolutely incompatible with goodwill and service understanding.
As is known, all Muslim cemeteries in Western Thrace are foundation property. It should not be forgotten that the Historical Horozlu Cemetery, which is approximately 15 decares, is primarily the property of foundations. The mayor's defense that this place was "registered to the municipality in the 80s" also reveals that the 15-decare foundation land was expropriated before. In other words, it is both expropriation and an attempt to destroy the historical heritage. I strongly condemn the Mayor of Bulustra (Avdira), Mr. Giorgos Tsitiridis, and those who think like him, and declare that the foundation land should be handed over to the people to whom the cemetery belongs, so that the wrong done is corrected as soon as possible.
I would like to remind you that those responsible for this ugly mistake owe an apology."
