Fishermen from the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace, who were fishing close to the scene of the accident, informed Millet about the accident they witnessed.

According to the information obtained, at around 08.00 on Wednesday morning, while travelling from Komotini to Xanthi via Porto Lagos road, the car carrying 2 illegal immigrants in the direction of Komotini-Iskeçe hit the barriers and fell into the sea without taking the bend on the Portolagos bridge. One person was rescued from the car with the help of West Thracian fishermen who were fishing nearby.

According to the statements of the fishermen, the other 2 people in the car, who were stated to be illegal immigrants, could not be saved.

The fire brigade, which arrived at the scene upon notification, started search and rescue operations, while police and medical teams were also present.

It was noteworthy that the incident was not reported in the local Greek press and no statement was made by the authorities.
