Büyük Derbent iftar brings together Turkish Community in Meriç Region
Büyük Derbent Village in the Meriç district of Sofulu Municipality hosted a meaningful iftar gathering on Friday evening, February 27, bringing together members of the local Turkish community.
The evening began with the call to prayer, followed by the iftar supplication led by Hüsamettin Öztürk, a religious official from Türkiye’s Directorate of Religious Affairs.
Büyük Derbent village imam Mehmet Bölükbaşı expressed gratitude to all attendees, including Aykut Ünal, and thanked village residents, the Kartunça neighborhood, and the Hasan Sarı Mahmut family for their support in organizing the traditional Ramadan event.
In his remarks, Consul General Ünal extended Ramadan greetings to the entire Muslim community and offered condolences regarding the recent attack on Hürriyet Mosque. He highlighted the importance of unity and togetherness during Ramadan and invited attendees to the Eid celebration on the first day of Ramadan at the Consulate.
The iftar was attended by Aykut Ünal and his spouse İlayda Ünal, Deputy Mufti of Komotini Fehim Ahmet, Çiğdem Asafoğlu, local officials, and representatives from various organizations.
The evening concluded with congregational evening prayers, coffee service, and informal conversations, fostering a warm sense of community.
