BTTÖB issues message for the new academic year
The statement highlighted the significance of protecting the educational rights of the minority as guaranteed by treaties and pointed out that these rights were being disregarded by authorities. It mentioned the closure of four minority schools this year, citing a need for a more conscious effort to prevent further closures.
The message addressed students, teachers, and parents, wishing them a successful year and emphasizing the vital role of education in preserving the culture and future of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
The statement also stressed the need for bilingual education in both Turkish and Greek to equip students for success and encouraged parents to send their children to minority schools to ensure the continuity of the minority's educational and cultural heritage. It criticized recent unilateral changes in school leadership that excluded the input of school boards, calling for unity and collective action to address these challenges.
