Book Launch: "İbrahim Şerif: A Story of Struggle" highlights a lifetime of advocacy
On November 6, a launch event was held for the book "İbrahim Şerif: A Story of Struggle," written by Dr. Hüseyin Bostancı and published by the Western Thrace Minority Culture and Education Company (BAKEŞ). The book, which documents the life and ongoing struggle of Gümülcine Mufti İbrahim Şerif, was presented at the Turkish Youth Union of Gümülcine.
The event was attended by Türkiye's Consul General in Gümülcine, Aykut Ünal, other diplomatic representatives, and prominent members of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, including religious and community leaders. BAKEŞ Education Specialist Özcan Mehmet opened the event, emphasizing Şerif’s role as an emblem of justice and minority rights for the Turkish community in Western Thrace.
During his remarks, Consul General Ünal praised Mufti Şerif's resilience and dedication to justice, noting that Şerif's story serves as both inspiration and guidance for future generations. Author Dr. Bostancı shared insights into the writing process, while Mufti Şerif highlighted his lifelong commitment to advocating for minority rights, particularly in areas like religious freedom, education, and heritage preservation.
The event concluded with a book signing by Mufti Şerif, offering attendees a memorable keepsake of this influential figure’s story.
