MP Hüseyin Baran has criticized the discriminatory treatment faced by livestock farmers in Xanthi, calling for compensation payments to be made without the requirement of tax and insurance documentation, as applied to farmers in Evros and Rhodope.

In a parliamentary question addressed to Rural Development and Food Minister Kostas Tsiaras, Baran stated, "While the government has exempted livestock farmers in Evros and Rhodope from presenting tax and insurance certificates for compensation, farmers in Xanthi, who face the same devastating consequences, have been excluded from this exemption and treated as second-class citizens."

Baran emphasized that diseases like smallpox do not respect geographical borders, and the financial struggles of Xanthi's farmers are no different from those in the other regions. He noted that the exclusion has created a sense of inequality and placed an additional burden on a sector critical to the local economy.

Baran posed two questions to the Minister:

  1. Will the government extend the tax and insurance exemption to Xanthi's farmers for fair treatment and effective support?
  2. Are there specific plans to help livestock farmers recover and maintain social cohesion in the region?
