Association in Türkiye slams Greece for closing minority schools

Erol Ateş, President of Kırklareli Balkan Turks Immigrants Solidarity Association, reacted to the decision of the Greek Ministry of Education to close 9 more minority schools in Western Thrace.
In a written statement, Ateş condemned the Greek Ministry of Education which decided to close the schools on the grounds of insufficient number of students.
Stating that Greece continues to interfere in the language and education of Western Thrace Turks, Ateş said, "Despite the clear provisions of the Treaty of Lausanne, Greece, with the decision taken on 19 July 2023, closed a total of 9 more schools in the 2023-2024 academic year, 7 schools in the province of Rodopi and 2 schools in the province of Xanthi, and the number of Turkish schools in Western Thrace decreased to 90. We condemn Greece for interfering with the language and education of Western Thrace Turks."
