Ashura tradition continues at Mescid-i Atik in İskeçe
The İskeçe Mufti’s Office continued its annual tradition by organizing the Ashura event once again at Mescid-i Atik Mosque, under the leadership of Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board President and Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa.
The traditional gathering took place on Friday, July 18, where Ashura was distributed to the congregation following the Friday prayer at the exit of the historic Mescid-i Atik Mosque.
A large number of community members and prominent local figures attended the event. Among them were Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal, İskeçe MPs Hüseyin Zeybek and Burhan Baran, Mustafçova Mayor Ahmet Kurt, President of the İskeçe Turkish Union Kerem Abdurrahimoğlu, Inhanlı Deputy Mayor Cem Salihoğlu, former Mustafçova Mayor Cemil Kabza, FEP Party Vice President Bahri Belço, Chairman of the Xanthi Minority Secondary and High School Board Ozan Ahmetoğlu, Deputy Chairman of BTTDD İzmit Branch İlkay Şehrin, President of the Dinkler Village Board of Trustees İlhan Giritli, President of the Ova Culture, Solidarity and Brotherhood Association Ömer Muzafferoğlu, local religious officials, staff from the Mufti’s office, and many residents of İskeçe.
The event served once again as a moment of communal solidarity and spiritual reflection, honoring a longstanding cultural and religious tradition in Western Thrace.
