Ashura event brings community together in Mehrikoz during Muharram

A community Ashura event was held at the Mehrikoz Central Mosque as part of Muharram observances, bringing together residents, religious leaders, and members of the Muslim Turkish community of Western Thrace.
Organized by the Women's Religious Guidance Team of the Mufti’s Office of Gümülcine, the gathering attracted strong participation from local residents. The program featured prayers, religious reflections, and the distribution of Ashura, a traditional dessert associated with the month of Muharram.
Among those attending was Gümülcine Mufti İbrahim Şerif, who joined community members for the event. Speakers highlighted the spiritual significance of Muharram and emphasized values such as solidarity, mutual support, and community cohesion.
The event concluded with prayers and the sharing of Ashura among participants, reinforcing the sense of unity and collective remembrance traditionally associated with the sacred month.
