Ashura Day organised in Para neighbourhood
The residents of the neighbourhood organised the 6th Ashura Day event this year.
The Ashura Day event, which is traditionally held due to the month of Muharram, was held by the residents of Para neighbourhood on Sunday, 30 July this year at the village mosque.
In the commemoration event, village imam İsmet Osman recited the Holy Quran, Mawlid-i Sharif and hymns, and prayers were made collectively.
After the noon prayer, pilaf with meat and buttermilk was served to the guests from the surrounding villages and neighbourhoods.
The event was attended by Hülya Giritli, Director of the Family Services Branch of the Muftiate of Xanthi, representing the Muftiate of Xanthi.
The programme ended after the conversation with the women about the importance of keeping the ashura event, which is an important Turkish and Islamic tradition, alive in Western Thrace.
DAY OF ASHURA: The day of Ashura, the tenth day of the month of Muharram, is the expression of sharing, solidarity, unity and love, and the symbol of abundance and fertility. The day of Ashura also contains common feelings and meanings in the Islamic world such as Hijra and Karbala.
