The event attracted significant interest, especially from young people and educators. The keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Melih Bulut, an expert in artificial intelligence from Turkey, shared his knowledge and experiences with attendees.

The conference began with an opening speech by BAKEŞ President Hüseyin Bostancı, who emphasized that artificial intelligence is not only a technological revolution but also carries the risk of deepening social inequalities. Bostancı highlighted the importance of AI literacy, digital skills, and technological productivity for the future of Western Thrace’s Turkish youth. He also stressed the significance of preserving cultural heritage digitally and producing content in the native language.

Prof. Dr. Bulut opened his talk by defining artificial intelligence as problem-solving by machines and explained its historical background, referencing pioneers like John McCarthy and Turkey’s Ordinaryüs Prof. Dr. Cahit Arf. He underlined AI’s transformative power, predicting that future advanced AI will impact not only technology but also the universe itself.

Providing examples from the medical field, Bulut noted how AI supports doctors in making more accurate diagnoses when used in collaboration. He urged young people to become more productive with AI and stressed the necessity of mastering this technology, as conscious AI has yet to be developed.

The event was attended by notable figures including Turkey’s Consul General in Komotini, Aykut Ünal, Western Thrace Minority Advisory Board Chairman and Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa, local officials, educators, and many young participants.
