Alexis Charitsis: Possibility of progressive forces’ alliance as a counterweight to the right
The political stake for the New Left in the coming period is to ensure that Kyriakos Mitsotakis does not get a third chance, stressed Alexis Charitsis repeatedly during the press conference he gave within the framework of the 89th TIF.
He spoke of the possibility of forming alliances with other left-wing forces, which, as he said, must become a bulwark against the Right.
He also commented on voter abstention—especially among young people—from electoral processes. In response to a related question from Voria.gr, with a tone of self-criticism, he admitted that “it is a huge responsibility of the Left, even though it is an international phenomenon,” that people are not inspired by parties of this political space, despite their dissatisfaction with government policies.
Mr. Charitsis, during his remarks, spoke of a period of great political fluidity, saying that “we want to submit a proposal with clear political content” in an era in which, as he noted, “policies are pursued as if we were still under a memorandum.”
Pointing to his party’s objections to government policy, he described Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis as a “master of hypocrisy,” noting that he presented as a major measure the tax exemption for young people under 25, while at the same time “depriving them of their future with the fiasco of private universities.”
