ABTTF's lawsuit against newsbreak.gr website postponed
The hearing of the compensation case filed by ABTTF against the news website newsbreak.gr, which published defamatory and false news about the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) in 2021, was held in Athens on 9 November.
ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu attended the hearing at the Athens Multi-Judge Civil Court of First Instance together with ABTTF's lawyer Antonis Kahrimanis. The court adjourned the hearing to a later date.
On 27.10.2021, newsbreak.gr, a news website based in Athens, published a news article about the 21st Ordinary General Assembly of ABTTF on 27.10.2021 with the title "Incitement from ABTTF with the flag of Western Thrace in Germany" which contained unfounded accusations against ABTTF, upon which ABTTF filed a lawsuit for compensation against the newsbreak.gr news website and the company that owns the website at the Athens Single Judge Civil Court of First Instance. On 16 February 2023, the court made an interim decision and referred the case to the higher court, the Athens Civil Court of First Instance with Multiple Judges.
Regarding the issue, ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu stated the following "I was present in the courtroom with our lawyer for the hearing of the compensation lawsuit we filed against the newsbreak.gr news website, which made unfounded and false news about our Federation, at the Athens Multi-Judge Civil Court of First Instance. The court postponed the hearing to a later date to be determined later. I will attend that hearing again on behalf of our Federation. I have full faith that the court will make a fair decision. I trust the courts and justice system of our country."
