ABTTF President Halit Habip Oğlu backs stable Türkiye–Greece relations
In a public statement, Habip Oğlu emphasized the importance of sustaining multidimensional and stable ties between the two neighboring countries. He noted that the Turkish community of Western Thrace is committed to serving as a “bridge” between Türkiye and Greece, a role he believes could significantly contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.
Referring to diplomatic developments, Habip Oğlu highlighted the visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Ankara in February, underscoring that such high-level engagements play a crucial role in advancing dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.
Habip Oğlu also expanded his perspective beyond Western Thrace, stating that the Turkish community in Bulgaria could similarly act as a bridge between Türkiye and its neighboring countries. Drawing attention to successful European examples, he cited minority communities living along the Germany–Denmark border, which have positively influenced social, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries.
He suggested that a comparable model could be implemented among Türkiye, Greece, and Bulgaria, fostering enhanced regional cooperation.
Concluding his remarks, Habip Oğlu stressed that increased collaboration and mutual understanding would help build more resilient and sustainable regional relations.
