ABTTF pays working visit to Istanbul
Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) President Halit Habip Oğlu held a series of meetings on 1-2 February 2024 within the scope of his working visit to Istanbul, Türkiye, the motherland of Western Thrace Turks.
Within the framework of the working visit, ABTTF President Habip Oğlu, accompanied by ABTTF International Relations Director Melek Kırmacı Arık, met on Thursday, 1 February with Prof. Dr. Halit Eren, President of the Balkans Civilisation Centre and International Turkish-Arab Dialogue and Former Director General of IRCICA, and on Friday, 2 February with Cavit Çağlar, Former Minister of State in charge of the Treasury of the Republic of Turkey, and with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Erdem, Lecturer at the Department of Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution at the Institute of Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution at Istanbul University.
During the meeting held at Prof. Dr. Eren's office in Zeytinburnu, ABTTF was informed about the activities carried out by ABTTF before international organisations in order to help solve the problems of the Turkish community in Western Thrace.
During the meeting with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdem in his office at the Institute of Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution at Istanbul University, the current problems of the Turkish community in Western Thrace and the latest developments in Western Thrace and Greece were exchanged and the issues that Erdem and ABTTF can work together were discussed.
During the meeting held in the office of former State Minister Çağlar, a member of the Turkish community in Western Thrace, at the Mövenpick Istanbul Boshporus Hotel, ABTTF was informed about the recent political lobbying activities of ABTTF in the international arena and exchanged views on the urgent problems of the Turkish community in Western Thrace, such as the migration of the young population out of the region for educational and economic reasons.
