19 May Commemoration of Atatürk and Youth and Sports Day celebrated in Greece
Consul General of Türkiye in Thessaloniki Serkan Gedik said that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's landing in Samsun on 19 May 1919 was the first spark of a nation's independence and freedom.
On 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, an event was held at the Atatürk House in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Speaking at the event, Consul General Gedik said, "Our ancestor's landing in Samsun on 19 May 1919 was the first spark of a nation's independence and freedom. The great step taken on 19 May was crowned with the establishment of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the declaration of our Republic in 1923."
Stating that Atatürk attached special importance to children and young people, Gedik emphasised that he expressed his trust and love for them by dedicating 23 April to children and 19 May to young people.
Gedik concluded his words as follows:
"I commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades in arms, our beloved martyrs, our veterans who have passed away with mercy and gratitude, and I present my respects to everyone who participated in our ceremony."
Consul General of Türkiye in Komotini Aykut Ünal also attended the ceremony.
The ceremony ended with the harmandal played by the Çanakkale İbrahim Bodur Anatolian High School team.
