15th Dr. Sadık Ahmet Football Tournament kicks off
The 15th edition of the Dr. Sadık Ahmet Football Tournament, organized by the Young Academics Group (GAT) operating under the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association, is set to begin this weekend.
Tournament Format
The competition will start with a group-stage league format, in which each team will play two matches. The top two teams in terms of points will advance directly to the semi-finals, while the bottom four will be eliminated from the tournament.
Teams ranked 3rd to 6th will compete in play-off matches to earn a spot in the semi-finals. The 3rd-ranked team will face the 6th, while the 4th will play the 5th. The winners of these matches will proceed to the semi-final stage.
Tie-breakers will be determined based on the following criteria, in order:
- Goal difference
- Number of goals scored
- Number of cards received
Disciplinary Rules
GAT has also released a set of disciplinary regulations to be followed throughout the tournament:
- All communication will be conducted solely through designated team representatives. Complaints or requests must be submitted to GAT’s executive committee via these representatives.
- In the play-offs, semi-finals, and final, tied matches will go straight to penalty shootouts, with no extra time.
- Players receiving a red card will be suspended for the following match.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct (such as swearing, insults, threats, or fighting) will be referred to the disciplinary committee. Penalties may include suspension, match bans, or complete expulsion from the tournament.
