Abdullah Eren, President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), made evaluations to AA correspondent regarding the importance of the "Conference on Contemporary Thought in the Muslim World" to be held by YTB and Platform Magazine on 18-19 November in Istanbul.

Stating that the world is going through difficult processes, especially the Islamic world is facing serious challenges and difficult situations, Eren stated that "moments of crisis can create opportunities for unity, solidarity and resurrection".

Stating that the two-day conference will "bring together prominent Muslim academics, intellectuals and researchers from all over the world", Eren said, "In the conference, both the current problems of the Muslim world and our 11-volume corpus of Contemporary Thought in the Muslim World, which we published in a period of 5 years under the editorship of our teacher Lütfi Sunar, will be discussed."

Stating that "contemporary Muslim thought in geographies such as Türkiye, Iran, Egypt, the Indian subcontinent, the Balkans, North Africa, Southeast Asia, the Turkic world, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab world" were discussed in these 11 volumes, Eren stated that 24 of the 127 authors who contributed to the books will take part in the conference and 35 speakers will share their views at this international conference.

Regarding the contributions of the conference, Eren said, "We think that analysing and understanding the thought in Muslim societies in the contemporary period will be important in solving the problems faced today. In this respect, we believe that the conference we will organise at the Islamic Research Centre in Istanbul will host important evaluations."

YTB President Eren pointed out that the conference will provide an environment where intellectuals can present their comprehensive views on issues of interest to officials and authorities from many different fields, especially politicians.

Stating that the conference will cover topics such as "democratisation, the attitude taken against modernity, human rights, cooperation among Muslim intellectuals" as well as the Palestine issue, Eren said, "As YTB, we are also pleased to implement such a programme in our country. Because we know that such a comprehensive, qualified and international programme has not been held in the world of science for a while."

Eren wished that the conference would be successful and have auspicious results for the Islamic world.
