During an official visit to Athens, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan underscored the significance of ensuring the peaceful exercise of rights and freedoms for the Turkish minority in Greece. Speaking alongside his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, Fidan emphasized mutual respect and the historical opportunity for closer relations between Türkiye and Greece.

Fidan noted that Türkiye values the well-being of the Turkish minority in Greece and raised their concerns and aspirations in discussions. He expressed optimism for strengthening cooperation in various sectors, including trade, tourism, and transportation, mentioning ongoing initiatives like constructing a second bridge at the İpsala-Kipi border crossing.

Addressing regional tensions, Fidan acknowledged existing disagreements over the Aegean Sea but advocated for addressing these with respect for international law and mutual cooperation. On Cyprus, he argued for a new approach to guarantee the safety and prosperity of both Turkish and Greek communities on the island.

Fidan concluded by advocating for increased counterterrorism cooperation and a peaceful resolution in the Middle East, urging international pressure on Israel to prevent further escalation in the region.
