The Wind of Friendship with Greece Continues

Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu and Notis Mitarakis held a joint press conference at Hatay Disaster Coordination Center.
Süleyman Soylu, who thanked the Greek government and people for their support due to the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, said the following about their visit and work with Mitarakis:
“They saw the debris removal work on site and from the air. We have seen the debris removal works on site, both from the air and from the land, in Hatay today, especially in Antakya, and yesterday in Hassa. 13,000 trucks a day work in the wreckage. The emergency demolition of a total of 26 thousand buildings, which are both destroyed and to be demolished, has been completed so far, 10 thousand of which are wrecked and in case of emergency demolition. In terms of volume, we have reached around 60 percent. We have already made our assessment of other provinces. Until the Eid al-Fitr, we will have completed the first phase of the work, that is, the immediate demolition phase. The second phase of the work, the phase related to other heavily damaged buildings in the field, has started immediately and we will accelerate our period regarding it.”
Soylu thanked Mitarakis for the neighborhood, friendship and closeness they showed from the first moment of the earthquake.
Mitarakis also stated that he visited the Turkish people to offer his condolences and said:

“I had the opportunity to visit a very small area where earthquakes took effect by helicopter and to see it from the air. Of course it’s only a small percentage of all the damage. Another issue that caught my attention was the speed with which the Turkish state, the Turkish government, took action. The temporary solutions and methods found in less than two months after a very large, rare disaster even in the world are admirable.”
Mitarakis stated that Greece will also help in the international arena for the recovery of the region, and that it will be fulfilled even though it is a difficult and demanding task.
Mitarakis, pointing out that he made his visit together with Greek Defense Minister Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, said, “This visit, meetings with the defense ministers show the commitment of both countries to the good progress of relations. I would like to thank you for your invitation and for hosting us here. I know you have a very difficult job to rebuild. I wish you success.” he said.
